  • HOUSE PLANNING – VASTU

“Shree Ganeshay Namah”

Vastu shastra (vāstu śāstra, vastu veda, vastuvidya, Thachu Shastra, Thatchu Shasthra, “science of construction”, “architecture”) is an ancient doctrine which consists of precepts born out of a traditional view on how the laws of nature affect human dwellings..  The designs are based on directional alignments. It used to be applied in Hindu architecture, especially for Hindu temples, and covers other domains, including vehicles, vessels, furniture, sculpture, paintings etc.
The foundation of Vastu is traditionally ascribed to the sage Maamuni Mayan (Mahaa-muni Maya, a daanava/demon reformed by tapasyaa/austerities) in South India, and Vishvakarman in North India.  While Vastu had long been essentially restricted to temple architecture, there has been a revival of it in India, in recent decades, notably under the influence of late V. Ganapati Sthapati, who has been campaigning for a restoration of the tradition in modern Indian society since the 1960s. While the fields are related, Shilpa Shastra explicitly deal with sculpture – forms, statues, icons, stone murals etc. The doctrine of Vastu Shastra is concerned primarily with architecture – building houses, forts, temples, apartments and other buildings.

Fundamental concepts:-

There are many principles in Vaastu Shastra. To mention a few which involve certain mathematical calculations, Maana is used for proportional relationships in a building and Aayaadi specifies conditions for maximum well being and benefits for the residents of a building. Below are some of the basic theories in vaastu sastra. Five elements According to the vastu sastra, the world comprises five basic elements known as the pancha maha bhoota. Out of the eight planets, ours has life because of the presence and balance of these five elements.

The five elements are as follows:-

EARTH (Bhumi) – Earth, the third planet in order from the sun, is a big magnet with North and South poles as centers of attractions. Its magnetic field and gravitational force has considerable effects on everything on the Earth, living and non-living.

WATER (Jal) – This is represented by rain, river, sea and is in the form of liquid, solid (ice) and gas (steam, cloud). It forms part of every plant and animal. Our blood is mostly water.

AIR (Vayu) – As a life supporting element, air is a very powerful life source. Human physical comfort values are directly and sensitively dependent on correct humidity, air flow, temperature of air, air pressure, air composition and its content.

FIRE (Agni) – Represents light and heat which account for day, night, the seasons, energy, enthusiasm, passion and vigour.

SPACE (Akasha) – The Akasha provides shelter to all the above elements. It is also considered the primary conductor of all energy sources within the universal context – physical energies such as sound and light, social energies such as psychological and emotional, and cognitive energies such as intellect and intuition.  There is an invisible and constant relation between all the five elements. Thus, the person can improve their conditions by properly designing their buildings by understanding the effectiveness of these five natural forces. Vaastu Sastra combines all the five elements of nature and balances them with the person and the material. It takes advantage of the benefits bestowed by the five elements of nature to create a congenial living and working environment thereby facilitating spiritual well-being and paving the way for enhanced health, wealth, prosperity and happiness..

✪✪ VaastuShastra means ‘Shastra- scientific study’ of Vaastu. It is related to residence or house, office and other premises. It is scientific study of a house and construction, the soil on which it stand or to be built up etc. it is a proper planning of existence of a human being and ambience surrounding him.Two chapters are frequently and commonly observed in VaastuShastra :
1. North Vastu tradition
2. South Vastu tradition
Thus the Vaastushastra is considered as a part of astrology. The Hindu culture considers vishwakarma as the creator of Vaastushastra. So at the time of any rituals of Vaastu, Lord Vishnukarma is worshipped definitely. Vaastu-Pooja means the test and the selection of land before building a house, office, a shop, temple or any premises. It involves the knowledge about the study of land and soil, its selection, the method of selection of proper direction and to divide land into square plots etc. the principles of the Vaastushastra are applied to construction of different types of houses, temples, an inn and a palace and in which, even the use of bricks, stones and walls are involved. Normally Vaastushastra is proper planning of the environment and edifice. It is necessary that the wind, light, water and the land etc. must be studied. The health of a person is maintained in an edifice constructed following the principles of Vaastushastra. If the health of a body is maintained, the condition of mind could also be preserved and when the mind is healthy, a person can properly perform any task given to him. A person can develop the best assets by any task performed with planned intelligence and applying wisdom. Vaastushastra is developed on the principles of Geography and Science. As the Vaastushastra is directly related to environment, in modern times, a situation like Global warming can be surfaced. As the modern builders take only their own convenience and profit into consideration, the balance of the environment is disturbed and so the present human being becomes a victim of disastrous natural calamities that may ruin down any house, office, a shop, a temple, an inn or a palace and the piece of land. If the home, office, any building or any premises structured on basis of the principles of the Vaastushastra, the balance of the environment can still be maintained. Thus, if we sustain the stability in the air, water, light (and other elements of nature) we can still save humans from the wreath of nature. We must uphold the balance of nature. We must know, understand and accept the vagaries of nature and adopt proper life styles so, that there is no disturbance in the functioning of nature. It will maintain the balance of nature.A man is affected by vagaries of nature as he disturbs the balance of nature. The gist of Vaastushastra can make the best of any construction of such houses, temple and other premises etc. and that increases the assets and happiness of a person. The equilibrium of environment also is maintained. In ancient times construction were made according to the principles of Vaastushastra while at present the convincesof a builder only our taking into consideration and forget the Vaastushastra. If a builder uses Vaastushastra,he has no difficulty from beginning to end.If a builder takes into consideration, thepuja (worship)room, bed room,kitchen,bath-room,guest-room,windows,doors and thecolours etc. of a house, the house will always be beneficial to the buyer. The planning of a home can be made from the Janmapatrika of a person. Some improvements can be incorporated in the position of land as a result of that.In the present days man knows how to make a house but the basic rules of construction of a house are generally forgotten. These error becomes a burden for him. Thus, the Vaastushastra can be called the art of maintenance of environment on the earth.so make map of any construction using Vaastu and obtain the best results.it may be a house,an office,a shops,a clinic or an inn,use Vaastushastra. Hence the balance of environment is maintained by Vaastu.it also provide protection against the environment. This Vaastu is like a brief ofHuman being. So do not let that breath suffocated and the balance of environment will be maintained.
